La Galerie D’ Expression is organising a group exhibition titled – “Strokes and Colours” of three Contemporary South Indian artists - S Jayaraj, K Kalai Selvan and M. Emmanuel Johnson from 16th to 31st October 2010. The show will be inaugurated on the evening of 16th October 2010 by an internationally acclaimed senior artist of South India,
Dr. Alphonso Doss. The paintings displayed in the exhibition are a unique collection of abstract and figurative works by the artists.

Artist S Jayaraj’s art works spell magic with his strong lines and bold strokes. The professional degree holder from the College of Arts, Chennai, has displayed some of his eye-catching figurative works. He is an artist of forms and figures. The exhibition has many faces, presented with empathy and understated eloquence. The figures and curves drawn with bold lines are an expression of calmness, happiness, curiosity and solitude. The figurative paintings of women are a testimony of the artist’s hard work as a result of his observation, composition and execution. He has commanded over the art of figurative paintings through his classical training in anatomy, drawing and traditional painting techniques. S Jayaraj has exhibited his art works in various countries and has been the recipient of several national and international awards. Artist K Kalaiselvan is a man of many parts who has finally found his niche in painting. Graduated in Textile Designing from the College of Arts, Chennai, he prefers the abstract, semi abstract, contemporary and figurative styles. His works are not that easy to describe. Both have gone through life with all its ups and downs and finally the victory cry from his throat is full of vim and vigour because he has tasted victory and he says that it is sweet. Kalai is proud of his tough beginnings. It was this life that created in his soul a thirst to give vent to his feelings through the medium of art, and his life shaped the desire. He has evolved a language of abstraction which carries his own personal imprint of maturity and significance. Kalai is fluent in a variety of media, be it oil or acrylic. Artist M Emmanuel Johnson also graduated in Textile Design from the College of Arts, Chennai. He started his career as a creative designer and did several illustrations for children’s magazines and books. He has since then, returned to his original passion of becoming a painter on a full-time basis. His works include abstracts, figurative as well as surrealistic paintings. He has a passion for vibrant hues each of which has an underlying spiritual significance. A number of his paintings depict peace signified by the dove.
