Monsoon Regatta Waterscapes 2012 is organized by Yacht Club of Hyderabad in collaboration with Arghyam, a Bangalore based charitable foundation set up with a personal endowment from Ms. Rohini Nilekani that does focused work on water and sanitation. 

The Art exhibition and sale hosted by Muse Art Gallery of the Marriott Hotel is organized in aid of the Sailing Academy, Hyderabad to give the underprivileged children an equal opportunity to learn the sport of Sailing. The proceeds will help underprivileged children achieve a sense of dignity and livelihood through the sport of Sailing. The credo of the Yatch Club is dignity through sports. Waterscapes is also conceived to draw awareness to the deteriorating quality of our lovely water bodies.

Monsoon Regatta Waterscapes 2012 is supported by Arghyam, Deloitte, Transworld Group and LiquidHub. The exhibition will be open from 11 AM to 5 PM daily from 24th June and will conclude on 6th July 2012.

This special Art Exhibition titled – “Water – The Thread of Life”, was organised by Arghyam to commemorate the World Water Day between 21st - 30th March 2012 at Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath. The show was inaugurated by Ms. Rohini Nilekani, Chairperson, Arghyam. Every year, 22^nd March is observed as World Water Day across the globe to remind the inhabitants of the earth of their responsibilities to protect, save and conserve this precious natural resource.

This exhibition was a special curated show and was relevant for the reason that seven contemporary Indian visual artists from Bangalore and Chennai  reacted to socio-political issue of water, its relevance and the risk inherent within the inevitability of nurturing cultivated water. The participating artists were Dr. Alphonso Arul Doss, Ms. Asma Menon, Mr. JMS Mani, Ms. Rekha Rao, Mr. S Jayaraj, Mr. Jayakumar G & Mr. Shailesh B.O. These artists are already known personalities in the field of visual arts not only for the art they have created but also due to the various sub-categories of art they have come to define—art pedagogy, art movements, criticism and the like. More than artists, they carry the mantle of being the eligible personalities for an art movement. This is exactly what they had done through this show. They  responded to the issue of water in a way that is specific to visual arts. They connected water to gender issues, separated the problems of water between urban and rural situation, made a visual-story of the omnipresence and inevitability of water, connected cultivated and cultured water to pictorial language and have differentiated it from the untamed water, among other aspects.

Food supplies are sourced from all food production sectors to meet the growing demands of the exploding population in India and one such promising area is fisheries. Every year, 16th October is celebrated as the World Food Day and it reminds us of our obligations to provide food for the billions that inhabit the earth. The aim of the Day is to heighten public awareness of the world food problem and strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty.
With this aim, Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO), Chennai has organized an Art Exhibition where Eminent artists of Chennai have exhibited their works inspired by the sea and the people associated with it.


Artists Alphonso Arul Doss, Asma Menon, S Jayaraj, N Manohar, V Ravindran and BO Shailesh have exhibited their paintings and sculptures on the theme. Using different media, these artists have painted the lives and livelihoods of fisherfolk and their environment. 


This exhibition is a tribute to the brave fishers who toil against all odds to harvest nutritious fish food from the oceans.

The exhibition will continue till 23 October 2011.

Chennai based contemporary artist S Jayaraj takes us on a journey through rural India through this painting exhibition titled – “Rural Faces”. This series of paintings showcases picturesque rural landscapes and shy people, especially women.

Graduated from the Government College of Arts, Chennai in 1985, S Jayaraj specialised in human anatomy. Through his extensive travel across India, he is intimately familiar with the lives of rural people which have left him totally mesmerised. This has always motivated him to capture fleeting expressions and multifarious moods of rural folks, especially women.

S Jayaraj’s artwork is simple but this simplicity is striking. He uses primary and earthen colours which give a sense of reality to his paintings. He often uses charcoal to sketch and his lines are nothing but fine strokes, well-controlled and strong. Colours like red, black and yellow are artist’s favourite and he strongly feels that these colours help his paintings to retain the Indian-ness in them.

S Jayaraj has held several national and international shows and has been the recipient of many national and international awards.

La Galerie D’ Expression is organising a group exhibition titled – “Strokes and Colours” of three Contemporary South Indian artists - S Jayaraj, K Kalai Selvan and M. Emmanuel Johnson from 16^th to 31^st October 2010. The show will be inaugurated on the evening of 16^th October 2010 by an internationally acclaimed senior artist of South India,
Dr. Alphonso Doss. The paintings displayed in the exhibition are a unique collection of abstract and figurative works by the artists.

Artist S Jayaraj’s art works spell magic with his strong lines and bold strokes. The professional degree holder from the College of Arts, Chennai, has displayed some of his eye-catching figurative works. He is an artist of forms and figures. The exhibition has many faces, presented with empathy and understated eloquence. The figures and curves drawn with bold lines are an expression of calmness, happiness, curiosity and solitude. The figurative paintings of women are a testimony of the artist’s hard work as a result of his observation, composition and execution. He has commanded over the art of figurative paintings through his classical training in anatomy, drawing and traditional painting techniques. Artist K Kalaiselvan is a man of many parts who has finally found his niche in painting. Graduated in Textile Designing from the College of Arts, Chennai, he prefers the abstract, semi abstract, contemporary and figurative styles. His works are not that easy to describe. Both have gone through life with all its ups and downs and finally the victory cry from his throat is full of vim and vigour because he has tasted victory and he says that it is sweet. Kalai is proud of his tough beginnings. It was this life that created in his soul a thirst to give vent to his feelings through the medium of art, and his life shaped the desire. He has evolved a language of abstraction which carries his own personal imprint of maturity and significance. Kalai is fluent in a variety of media, be it oil or acrylic. Artist M Emmanuel Johnson also graduated in Textile Design from the College of Arts, Chennai. He started his career as a creative designer and did several illustrations for children’s magazines and books. He has since then, returned to his original passion of becoming a painter on a full-time basis. His works include abstracts, figurative as well as surrealistic paintings. He has a passion for vibrant hues each of which has an underlying spiritual significance. A number of his paintings depict peace signified by the dove.
